About the Event

JO ANNE RUSSO

Prior to 2014, JoAnne Russo was known known for pushing the boundaries of basketmaking to sculptural, non-functional forms and her work is in a number of museums around the world, including the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Peabody-Essex Museum, Smithsonian’s Renwick Museum and others.

Now, well established as a scientific expert in certain groups of moths, she has curated lepidoptera collections for collectors and institutions, including the Cornell University Insect Collection in Ithaca, New York.

GRETCHEN ABENDSCHEIN

A dancer and visual artist living in Vermont, Gretchen Abendschein began her training at the age of 4 and has studied ballet, jazz, tap, modern and acrobatics . She continued her training at University of Maryland, Dartmouth College, and Jacob's Pillow, where she studied Horton Jazz Technique with Judith Jamison, former principal dancer and director of  Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. In the early 1990s Gretchen  performed as a soloist with Arthur Hall's tri-state dance company, NewVerMaine, while continuing creating drawings, paintings, and collage. Most recently she has been creating drawings solely for herself as a means to arrive at a new and inclusive vocabulary, allowing images to emerge from her inner landscape.
